We won this commission for the conversion and extension of an office building into a hotel. The development
The Site forms part of a block in the City of London and is in close proximity of the junction of Bishopsgate and Great St. Helen’s.
Within the area, the ‘Eastern Cluster’, there are tall buildings around the site such as the Gherkin to the east , the Leadenhall Building as known as Cheesegrater and the Tower 42 to the south and Heron Tower to the north. The Site is located just opposite the Pinnacle site, where a 294m height building has been proposed.
This proposal is the result of an extensive volumetric analysis where the existing front facade is decomposed to its primary elements. Once the primary elements are established the design process begins with a series of options whereby the building gains new storeys, the lower storeys are designed so as to have a visual connection with the Parish Church of St. Helen and along Bishopsgate.
